How to read this page

How it’s measured. Rating changes by brokerage analysts on S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 stocks, from FMP. An upgrade or downgrade is a change in a firm’s rating; reiterations and new coverage are left out. Firms use different scales, such as Buy, Overweight and Outperform.

Sources. Daily prices and analysts’ estimates and ratings from Financial Modeling Prep.

In our research, analysts’ rating changes and the balance of their ratings did not reliably predict a stock’s later returns. Earnings surprises carried more information.

Ratings lean heavily toward Buy, so a downgrade to Hold often says more than an upgrade to Buy.
