Net income per head — productivity that reaches the bottom line

Revenue per employee tells you how much a business sells per worker; profit per employee tells you how much it actually keeps. It’s the bluntest read on operating leverage that survives all the way down the income statement — a number that rewards pricing power and lean overhead at once.
The list leans toward asset-light, high-margin models — finance, software, a few specialised manufacturers — where a small headcount sits on top of an enormous earnings base. That’s the point: these are the companies turning the fewest people into the most profit.
